Castor Oil & Its Benefits

Castor Oil & Its Benefits

Castor oil is a natural beauty wonder! Known for its multiple virtues, this oil works miracles on the skin, hair and nails.

Where do we source our Castor oil?

India produces about 80% of the world's castor seeds, 18% of which come from a region known as Kutch. An arid landscape that is almost devoid of trees, without irrigation and without rain: a place where it is difficult to live from the earth. However, the castor plant is very hardy and it is one of the few crops that can be grown in this country.

What makes our Castor oil organic?

Castor oil (Ricinus communis) is obtained from the seeds of castor fruits. Castor must be grown according to the principles of organic farming in order to extract 100% organic, 100% pure and natural oil. A castor seed makes up an average of 50% oil and it takes about 1,800 seeds to obtain 1 liter of oil. It can be obtained by several extraction methods, but to be in accordance with our quality criteria, we ask that it be extracted by cold pressing.

This method consists of pressing the seeds using a mechanical screw press without any hot treatment. The oil will then preserve all its qualities since its components have not been subjected to high temperatures.

Castor oil's many benefits

As its name suggests, castor oil is mainly composed of ricinoleic acid: this means that it is composed of a large majority of monounsaturated fatty acids, ensuring optimal protection for the skin and its sander. 5% of polyunsaturated fatty acids are from the omega 6 series. They support the resistance and repair of skin tissue, nails and hair. The remaining 3% are saturated fatty acids.

Castor oil has many benefits:

  • Care for fragile, brittle nails.
  • Hair care: strengthens and protects the hair, makes it shiny. Eyebrows, too!
  • Softening and healing virtues for the skin.

Don't be surprised by its slightly sticky and viscous texture - it's quite normal!

Finally, it has been used since the dawn of time as a laxative with an irritating mode of action for the intestinal wall.

How to use Castor oil

To nourish the hair

This oil moisturizes the scalp and boosts circulation, which can support healthy hair growth. It also nourishes the hair itself, fighting dryness and breakage.

1 to 2 times a week, apply the oil to dry hair and massage into your scalp; cover your hair with a warm towel and leave on for 1 hour (even all night, if you can); then wash your hair with shampoo. It may take 1-2 shampoo and rinses to remove the castor oil, but it is well worth it!

To strengthen the nails

You may have fragile, soft or brittle nails, this vegetable oil is the ideal solution if you want to strengthen them and allow them to grow properly.

How to do it?

  • Every evening at bedtime, apply a drop on each nail; then massage the nail, insisting on the cuticles.

To promote the growth of eyelashes, eyebrows and beard

As with your scalp and hair, Castor can also help with eyebrow, eyelash and beard health. The texture of Castor oil is quite "viscous", so it is better to apply it with a cotton swab to avoid getting it in the eyes.

Dark circles

The dark circles that sit under your eyes can also benefit from a little Castor oil. The reason? The moisturizing and softening action.

  • Massage 1 drop once a day on the area.

Know that castor oil also serves as a make-up remover oil! Just to kill two birds with one stone. Rumors say that Cleopatra used this oil to remove her make-up. So if the Queen of Egypt did it...

Pigment spots

Do these little brown spots on your face or hands bother you? Castor oil can be a major ally thanks to its healing support. Apply 2 drops morning and evening to the affected area.

Fine lines & wrinkles

Apply castor oil to wrinkles in small quantities - too much may clog pores. Apply 1 to 2 drops to the affected areas 1x/day.

Create your lip gloss for dry and/or chapped lips

Just want to make your lips shiny? Fill a roll-on with castor oil or apply it directly with a brush.
