We've welcomed a new certification into our group of trusted third-party verifiers – Ecogarantie. We're so excited to share what this gold-standard organic certification stands for, what it means for our products, and why we believe it’s an important step toward greater transparency, sustainability, and trust.
The importance of certifications
Aromatherapy can be a confusing topic, from what essential oils are to what carrier oils are. When both are called oils, it’s easy to see where the confusion comes in. And in a day and age where the devil can be in the details, it’s important to understand a few key components when it comes to aromatherapy. One of those is certifications, and their meanings. A certification can be one sure fire way to know you’re getting a quality product. Let’s look at one of the newest to the market and how it speaks to quality aromatherapy products.
What is Ecogarantie?
Ecogarantie is an organic certification born in Belgium, a country included in the European Union, known for its staunch regulations around items like personal care products. Ecogarantie ensures the consumer that they have chosen a product that has:
- Employed sustainable & ethical sourcing practices,
- cruelty-free commitments,
- rigorous purity and farming standards,
- social responsibility and
- strict environmental standards, is
- free from GMOs,
- and that all these natural ingredients are 100% organic.
Why are organic aromatherapy products important?
As we know, anything we put on our skin ends up being absorbed and brought into the body. The skin is the largest organ our body has and does a lot of hard work – so it’s important that we treat it with the care it deserves. The Ecogarantie certification at Pranarōm is applied to all of our Virgin Plant Oils. These are the fixed, carrier oils used to dilute essential oils and safely deliver them to our skin. With something so precious as our skin, body, and general health, it’s important to consider the quality of all products used, even if they’re just used as a delivery system.
Ecogarantie, USDA & EcoCert
The Ecogarantie certification is a welcome addition to Pranarōm’s collection of organic certifications, which also includes USDA organic and EcoCert organic.
USDA, a governmental regulatory body, is the most familiar organic certification in this country and offers the comfort because of that familiarity but originated for crops grown for consumption.
EcoCert is a French, independent certifying body that was created for aromatherapy and personal care products, which makes it more applicable to what we do here at Pranarōm. EcoCert pays close attention to details that might be overlooked by a certification designed for food.
Ecogarantie lives in the same category as EcoCert in that it exists specifically to support aromatherapy and personal care products.
When it comes to your essential oils and virgin plant oils, don’t leave the quality to guess-work. Choose products that have certifications that ensure quality and are geared toward their particular use. Ecogarantie provides just that with its careful, thoughtful approach to aromatherapy.
