The Pranarom laboratory

Pranarôm is a scientific and medical aromatherapy laboratory founded in 1991 by Dominique Baudoux, a renowned pharmacist/aromatologist who is known and referenced globally for his work with essential oils.

Originally a family business, Pranarōm has developed into a leading expert in innovative and natural solutions based on 100% pure and organic chemotyped essential oils, encompassing all areas of health and suitable for the whole family.

Through training and education, the brand combines centuries of traditional wisdom with a rigorous & modern scientific approach - bringing together ever more talents, innovative products, and grassroots initiatives.

A family story

Following a family tradition of pharmacy, Dominique Baudoux—like his father and grandfather before him—entered the field with a forward-thinking mindset. In the 1980s, he was among the first community pharmacists in Belgium to recognize the potential of essential oils as natural medicine.

Since then, his work has taken him around the world, where he shares his knowledge through lectures and professional training, promoting a broader role for essential oils in health and wellness.

A dedicated educator, he enjoys sharing his knowledge of essential oils and contributing to the development of practical aromatherapy formulations. His results-driven approach has helped demonstrate the value of essential oils in clinical and therapeutic contexts.

Many of his early formulations were published in his first book, Aromatherapy – Healing with Essential Oils, and have since become widely referenced within the French aromatherapy tradition. Over time, his work has earned him recognition as one of the key figures in the field. Our training courses are recognized as the most reliable in the aromatherapy sector. They are constantly updated in line with new products and laboratory research.

Quality

Aromatherapy as offered by Pranarōm can only be practiced with products of consistent, irreproachable quality:

• CTEO label: selection of botanically certified plants;
• Systematic analyses and controls by independent bodies; traceability of each batch and control at every level, from plant to bottle;
• Production in accordance with HACCP standards procedure;
• Full compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).

Partner producers - distillers

Pranarōm works closely with aromatic plant producers and distillers around the world. This proximity enables Pranarōm to control the quality of its essential oils from the plant to the bottle.

In Madagascar, Pranarōm began working with growers in the early 2000s to develop responsible cultivation of aromatic plants and traditional distillation that respects both the environment and industrial quality.

In 2009, Pranarōm launched a vast local development project in Antsirabe, providing stable, fair employment for over a hundred people, while preserving the laboratory's responsible supply of essential oils. This project is AROMABE.

The respect

Pranarōm supports organic farming because it is the best for nature. Whenever possible, Pranarōm formulates its products in ORGANIC quality and complies with the requirements of ORGANIC certification. Most products carry an organic certification label controlled by Certisys Belgium.

With a view to sustainable development, Pranarōm invests in the sustainable planting of organic ravintsara and other local plants in Madagascar. Ecological and sustainable production methods are thus respected. Pranarōm also invests in the cultivation of endangered species.

Alongside the production of Essential Oils, Pranarōm develops local services (doctors, nursing care, education) to assist the developing Madagascan population.

Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils to harmonize physical and mental health. Essential oils are used to reinforce the natural healing process. It is a natural method based on the activity of the biochemical molecules of essential oils.

A letter from Dominique Baudoux on Pranarôm's 30th anniversary

« 30 years ago, when Pranarôm was founded, aromatherapy was unknown..." "You want to heal with perfumes!" they would say to me at the pharmacy, out of ignorance. Today, the whole world has heard about the remarkable virtues of essential oils.

Scientific research on aromatherapy is developing rapidly, partly thanks to Pranarōm. It took a lot of work to get here, and I am proud to have contributed to this success.

At the launch of Pranarôm, essential oils were not studied much, and I ventured into unknown, sometimes hostile territories! But I am a man of challenge, and passionate about aromatherapy. Pharmacist by training, son and grandson of pharmacists, I aspired to other professional horizons when a friend, a homeopathic doctor, suggested that I accompany him to a conference titled "aromatherapy" one day in May 1988. It was the starting point of a beautiful family adventure, which continues beyond my expectations.

I would like to thank the pharmacists, healthcare professionals, patients, and of course the collaborators who have trusted us for the past 30 years. I sincerely believe that natural medicines, backed by a rigorous scientific approach, have a bright future ahead of them in all areas of health. Such was the direction taken 30 years ago, and such will still be the beating heart of our actions tomorrow.
