Tea Tree: the Multitasker

Tea Tree: the Multitasker

This traditional Australian remedy keeps things fresh and clean no matter where you are! A must have for natural skin care, natural cleaning and natural odor control.

Organic Cleaning: For an easy, economical scrub, sprinkle baking soda in your tub/sink and add 5-10 drops of Tea Tree. Optional: add a few drops of sunny citrus essential oils.

Happy Feet: Apply a few drops of Tea Tree on flip-flops before using a public shower. Sprinkle smelly shoes, bags and sports equipment with Tea Tree to kill the stink!

Clear Skin: Use a few drops of Tea Tree on blemish prone areas, or blend with your daily moisturizer to maintain clear skin.

Did you know? Niaouli (Melaleuca quinquenervia) is a close relative of Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) and is often used for similar health purposes. The difference is that Tea Tree (composed mainly of monoterpenols and monoterpenes) works to cool and revive, while Niaouli (predominantly 1,8 cineole) works to stimulate. Combined, their synergistic force is superb for immune support – try a couple drops of each in a diffuser or vapor rub next time you feel under the weather.

Grapefruit: Natural Cleaning Power

This uplifting and energizing essential oil is a natural mood booster with powerful antiseptic qualities for cleaning your home naturally. Here are 4 ways to infuse your home with Grapefruit - its fresh, joyful personality will delight you! 4 ways to use grapefruit essential oil 1. Diffusion: Add 8-12 drops of Grapefruit to your ionic diffuser for a bright, positive boost. Optional: include a few drops of Tea Tree or Rosemary.   2. Organic Cleaning: Combine 12-25 drops of Grapefruit, 1tsp unscented dish soap and 1oz water in a spray bottle. Optional: include a few drops Tea Tree for a germ fighting boost! For a sink/tub scrub, combine a few drops Grapefruit with TBSP of baking soda. 3. Aromatic Steam: Add a few drops of Grapefruit around your shower floor to provide an uplifting steam shower.   4. Clean Hands: Add 4-8 drops of Grapefruit to unscented liquid hand soap or your favorite lotion. Did you know? Many citrus oils contain the constituent bergapten: a compound known for having anti-inflammatory properties, but also potential phototoxic reaction when applied to the skin. Unless a citrus essential oil is specifically labeled non-phototoxic (bergapten free), it’s best to err on the side of caution. We recommend a 5% (45 drops in 1oz carrier) or less dilution rate for skin preparations. If you are going to use more than this, simply apply in the evening when you will be out of direct sunlight for at least 12 hours. Article by: Hanna Stensgaard

Sinus Formula & Respiratory Support

Whether it’s pesky allergy time or cold and flu season, our noses and respiratory systems can always use a little extra care. Formulated with essential oils and olive oil, Sinus Formula soothes the area around the nostrils while promoting deep, clear breathing. Try one of the applications below and enjoy some much needed relief! Direct Treatment: Using a small cotton swab, apply formula directly to nose area and just inside the nostrils. For extra sensitive skin try diluting with a gentle carrier oil. Neti Pot: Mix 1 tsp sea salt, 1/4 tsp baking soda, 2 cups distilled or boiled (then cooled!) water and 1-4 drops Sinus Formula in a carefully cleaned neti pot. Standing over a sink, tip your head to the side and breathe through your mouth as you pour the mixture into your upper nostril and let it exit out through your lower nostril. Repeat on the other side. Aromatic Rub: Sinus Formula can also be used as an aromatic rub! Use straight-up or dilute with a carrier oil, massaging into neck, chest and nose area. Take a few moments to breathe deeply after applying. What about diffusion? The reason we typically do not recommend diffusing Sinus Formula is because it contains olive oil. When a fatty oil is diffused small fat particles are sent into the air. These can cling to surrounding surfaces, potentially causing a mess. If you’re looking for essential oils to diffuse for respiratory support, try our Immune Defense Solution, Winter Trees Blend (seasonal), Purity Blend or Strength Blend. Article by: Hanna Stensgaard
