Essential Oil DIY Recipes for a Healthy Home

Ready for spring cleaning? Let's do it the natural way with essential oil enhanced DIY recipes - no harmful chemicals here! Just simple ingredients that you probably already have in your cupboard.  

DIY Shower Curtain & Tile Spray

Shower curtains are a tricky area to keep clean due to the humid atmosphere and low air flow in most bathrooms. Essential oils and white vinegar are a natural solution to help counter mold – use this spray at least once a week for best results. Just add to a spray bottle, shake to combine, and spray! Recipe makes 4oz.

1/4 C White vinegar
1/4 C Distilled water
10 drops Lavender essential oil
10 drops Peppermint essential oil
5 drops Thyme ct Thymol essential oil
5 drops Clove Bud essential oil
5 drops Tea Tree essential oil

Spray on shower curtain and tiles, focusing on areas where mold tends to grow (near the bottom of the shower curtain). Use a scrubber if needed, then rinse. 

Simple Room & Linen Purifying Spray 

 

Lemon, peppermint and tea tree essential oils are wonderful for tackling odors and have a lovely, refreshing scent. You can, however, use whatever essential oils or blends you’d like with this recipe. 
30 drops Lemon essential oil
10 drops Peppermint essential oil
5 drops Tea Tree essential oil
1 oz Vodka
3 oz Distilled Water
Add to a 4oz spray bottle and shake gently to combine. Spritz throughout your living spaces, on bed linens, pillows, clothing, etc... 

Lavender & Thyme Baking Soda Scrub

This recipe is the bomb when it comes to grease and grime in the kitchen or in the bathroom. Lavender & thyme boost the blend with their purifying properties + a light, pleasant scent. 

10 drops Lavender essential oil
5 drops Thyme ct linalol essential oil
1/2 cup baking soda
A few tablespoons of water - enough to make a thick paste. 
When you're ready to scrub your bathtub, kitchen sink, countertop, or wherever, mix this blend up in a bowl, adding water a little at a time until you like the consistency. Use a scrub brush or the rough side of a sponge. When you've finished, simply rinse with water.
