Essential Oils & Virgin Plant Oils for Muscle & Joint Health

It's not just athletes who are affected by joint and muscle problems. We've become accustomed to pushing certain pains out of our heads as if to hide them. However, it's better to face them head on and address them while they're still mild. Essential oils, which are very powerful, can prove to be natural assets for both prep and recovery.

  • The new mother: I carry my baby a lot, and every trip takes real effort. I think I might need to see a doctor about the pain that flares up in my arm from time to time, but I don't have always have the time.
  • The production worker: the same movements every day for hours... The pace is fast and I can't slow down. Even if my joints can't keep up!
  • Seniors: I'd like to push my limits and continue doing activities I'm passionate about. I think it's a real benefit for my body, within reason.
  • The athlete: I like to play sports in my free time, always trying to push myself, which can cause some pain. Even sports considered gentler, like yoga, can cause discomfort.
  • Drug treatments: Every day, I take numerous pills and medications for my joint and muscle pain. If a natural method could help, it would be a relief.

Eucalyptus Citriodora Essential Oil

Numerous studies highlight the anti-inflammatory properties of this essential oil with a pleasant lemongrass scent - it's extremely soothing for muscles & joints, and also helps keep mosquitoes away! Practical for treks, it doesn't take up space but provides real comfort.

Topical use: 3 to 4 drops diluted with 3 to 4 drops of virgin plant oil or added to body lotion.

Wintergreen Essential Oil

The favorite essential oil of top athletes, it's ideal for muscle problems &/or cramps. It's composed of over 95% methyl salicylate, an active ingredient commonly used in pharmacies for its analgesic effects.

Local route: 3 to 4 drops 3 to 4 times a day, diluted in a virgin plant oil.

Caution: Not suitable for children and pregnant women, or if you are taking a blood thinner or allergic to aspirin. 

Helichrysum Essential Oil

Well known for its exceptional effect on bruises and bumps, it can be used in combination with wintergreen essential oil for massage (diluted in arnica virgin plant oil) to soothe and provide topical relief.

Peppermint Essential Oil

Its rapid cooling action at low concentrations makes peppermint essential oil a favorite for topical relief, especially for backaches.

Precautions for use: Be careful to mix it well with a virgin plant oil. Do not use if you are pregnant or breast-feeding, or with children under 6 years of age.

Arnica Virgin Plant Oil (Macerate)

If you want to enhance the effect of essential oils, opt for Arnica, known for its soothing and moisturizing properties.
